Metro Atlanta’s shrine to Shiva
Where Hindu Temple of Atlanta
Condition Highway 85 has greater than its share of nondescript industrial structures and shopping malls. But around the borders of Riverdale comes the unpredicted: a set of white-colored temples-the main one pictured is dedicated to Shiva, certainly one of Hinduism’s three primary deities-with 72-feet-tall towers. In excess of twenty five years, the temples, built-in the Dravadian type of southern India, have given a haven for that region’s Hindu population. Ornate sculptures of deities around the spires, or gopurams, are cast in cement. Inside visitors will find 16 shrines and attend daily religious services, in addition to dance, yoga, and Sanskrit classes. Leave your footwear in the door should you go.
