In Feb 2008, a Johns Creek Waffle House asked enthusiasts to celebrate Love Day. “I remember thinking, ‘Naw, that’ll never work,’” states Derrick Hooper, who oversaw Atlanta-area stores at that time. However came 24 reservations-adopted by a large number of walk-ins. One couple drove from Chattanooga. A guy who’d taken his wife to Waffle House on their own first date opened up inside a Mercedes. Three news crews showed up. “It was crazy,” states Hooper. “It just mushroomed into this electric atmosphere.” By 2014, greater than 175 locations offered Love Day specials varying from Champagne flutes of Sprite to some roving violinist. Patrons rent limos and wear gowns and tuxes. However this continues to be WaHo-no jacket needed.
